October Half Term Family Day – Sculpture in the City

This October half-term, visit Guildhall Art Gallery for a fun family day celebrating the City's annual open-air art exhibition - Sculpture in the City.

Enjoy multiple creative activities linked to the outdoor art trail. Expect to create your own structures, experiment with mark-making on clay, hear stories created with your sculptures and explore links to the Gallery's artworks.

In addition, sculptural work will be on display from six school groups who have created sculptures inspired by this year's exhibition.

Drop - in workshop activities from 11am to 4pm:

  • Take-away tactile tiles - Explore markmaking on clay using natural and man-made objects, then take home your tile inspired by the sculpture Dendrophiles. This activity will be run by Urban Learners, the creative partners working on the Sculpture in the City school's project.
  • Dream creature sculpture stories - Create a creature made up of the mixed parts of many different animals, and then take part in a participatory dream story with your character by the wonderful Patchlarks.
  • Super stick sculpting - Inspired by the sculptures on display by school students, create your own super-strong stick sculpture.
  • Interactive Family Art Tour - Join ARTiculator, Tanya Dean, on this family tour, which links sculptures on the outdoor art trail to those you can find in the Gallery. Expect activities and jokes along the way.
  • Admire sculptures by school students - Sculptures and drawings will be on display by year 7 -9 students from our surrounding boroughs.

Their Main gallery includes a story corner with soft cushions, dress-up costumes, and soft play building bricks for younger children

This event is for children aged 3 to 13 and their families. It is not suitable for individual adults.

Time: 11am to 4pm.

Tickets: Activities are free however booking is advised - walk-ins encouraged.
