During his Mayoral year, Alderman King has championed his ‘Growth Unleashed’ theme, by promoting a revitalised, resilient, and risk-ready City. His theme has focused on challenging industry to maximise opportunities through responsible risk taking, driving the adoption of technologies, and celebrating the successes of the many diverse communities across the UK.
‘Growth Unleashed’ has looked to drive growth and investment particularly in areas where the UK has a competitive advantage. As habitual early adopters of dynamic new technologies, the programme has sought to mobilise private capital to early-stage companies, productive sectors of the economy and promote pro-innovation regulation.
He has also championed the City and UK’s diverse communities by establishing new networks to bring together different communities to foster collaboration, celebrate achievements, promote growth.
The magnificent Grade I listed Mansion House built in 1739 has been the home and office of the Lord Mayor of the City of London for over 250 years. Today it is still in use as the home and office for each Lord Mayor during their one-year term in office.
While not normally open to the public, visitors can explore the 18th century rooms by joining a guided tour of Mansion House.

A big date in the City’s calendar, the Lord Mayor's Show is an annual event that dates back over 800 years. The original purpose of this historic event was to welcome the new Lord Mayor, and to "show" them to the people of the City. During the procession the newly elected Lord Mayor of London swears an oath of allegiance to the sovereign at the Royal Courts of Justice.
This year, the Lord Mayor’s Show will become the Lady Mayor’s Show, marking a historic milestone for the City of London. The Lady Mayor’s Show will take place on Saturday 8 November.
