London Mithraeum Bloomberg SPACE

Location:
12 Walbrook, London EC4N 8AA

10am to 4pm daily (12 to 4pm on Sundays). Excluding 25 and 26 December and 1 January.

Join London Mithraeum Bloomberg SPACE to celebrate the ancient Roman Festival of Saturnalia with free crafts and an exploration of Roman London.

One of the most popular holidays of the Roman calendar, this ancient festival honours Saturn, the god of seed-sowing, and celebrates the promise of a spring harvest. The festivities would have started on 17 December and coincided with the winter solstice. Wax taper candles called cerei were common gifts during Saturnalia, to signify light returning after the solstice.

Celebrate the festival by decorating a candle-themed ornament and discover the Roman oil lamps, along with many other ancient artefacts that were discovered on our site.

Children of all ages welcome. Sessions are drop in, please book a slot in advance.
