Join artist Jock McFadyen and composer Jem Finer in a special evening conversation exploring art, music and the hidden layers of the city beneath our feet.
To mark the exhibition 'Jock McFadyen with Jem Finer: Underground (and Surface)', artist Jock McFadyen and musician and composer Jem Finer come together for a rare public Q & A, hosted by cultural commentator Will Gompertz, inside the remarkable setting of London’s Roman Amphitheatre beneath Guildhall Art Gallery.
McFadyen and Finer will discuss the ideas behind their collaborative exhibition, which explores the unseen infrastructures and imagined histories beneath London’s streets. Drawing on McFadyen’s powerful artworks and Finer’s evocative sound work, the exhibition reflects on the city as a layered space, where past, present, and possibility coexist both underground and on the surface.
In conversation with Gompertz, the artists will reflect on their creative partnership, the inspiration behind the exhibition, and the enduring fascination artists have with the hidden life of cities. The discussion will also explore how visual art and sound can combine to reveal new ways of experiencing London.
Set within the atmospheric remains of London’s Roman Amphitheatre, one of the City’s most extraordinary historic spaces, this event offers a unique opportunity to hear directly from the artists about the ideas and processes behind 'Underground (and Surface)'.
A Q & A with the audience will follow the conversation, and there will be an opportunity to visit the exhibition.
