The Lady Mayor of the City of London

The role of the Lady Mayor of the City of London

The Lady Mayor of the City of London is the head of the City of London Corporation, the governing body of the Square Mile dedicated to a vibrant and thriving City, supporting a diverse and sustainable London within a globally-successful UK.

Elected annually, the Lord or Lady Mayor of the City of London is an international ambassador for the UK's financial and professional services sector and works closely with the Mayor of London.

About the current Lady Mayor, Dame Susan Langley DBE

Dame Susan is the third woman in the City of London Corporation’s history to hold the office – and the first to use the title, Lady Mayor.

As the elected head of the City of London Corporation, she is serving as a global ambassador for the UK financial and professional services industry from November 2025 for a one-year term.

Acting as an international spokeswoman for the City, she will seek to promote the U.K. as an attractive destination for investment.

She has pledged to champion a ‘Modern Mayoralty’ – a long-term, strategic approach designed to ensure the role remains relevant, resilient, and aligned with government and industry to maximise its effectiveness.

Lady Mayor Langley brings extensive experience in both business, civic and charitable service and has held directorships in key financial and public institutions.

The Lady Mayor's Show

A big date in the City’s calendar, the Lord Mayor's Show is an annual event that dates back over 800 years. The original purpose of this historic event was to welcome the new Lord Mayor, and to "show" them to the people of the City. During the procession the newly elected Lord Mayor of London swears an oath of allegiance to the sovereign at the Royal Courts of Justice.

This year, the Lord Mayor’s Show will become the Lady Mayor’s Show, marking a historic milestone for the City of London. The Lady Mayor’s Show will take place on Saturday 8 November.
