About McMullen and Son’s (Rivertown Brewing)
Hertford’s Brewery has been run by the McMullen family since it was established in 1827. Over the years, they’ve grown into a much-loved local institution, known for their authentic heritage ales, contemporary Rivertown brews, and a collection of well-run pubs including the Old Bank of England in the City of London.
At City Beerfest, they will showcase a diverse range of McMullen and Rivertown beers, blending heritage with modern brewing flair. From the historic McMullen AK, a smooth amber mild brewed in Hertford for 199 years, to the well-balanced award-winning Country Best Bitter with its fruity, caramel notes and lingering bitterness, their cask ales celebrate tradition. The standout Stronghart Bitter (7%) is especially celebrated this year as they toast to Master Brewer, Fergus McMullen.
Alongside these, the Rivertown range brings a contemporary twist: a crisp, hop-forward Pilsner with citrus freshness, a tropical IPA bursting with mango and passion fruit, and Daze, a hazy pale ale packed with juicy, vibrant fruit character.
Read on to find out what they are bringing to City Beerfest 2026.
