Ossett Brewery at City Beerfest!

About Ossett Brewery

This is modern brewing and a quarter century of fierce independence. It’s brewing steeped in passion, and beers that have stood the test of time, but never once stood still. From a pioneering brewpub, to an unrelenting powerhouse, this was craft before we ever called it that. This is Ossett Brewery.

Their number one beer, White Rat, burst onto the scene as one of the hoppiest cask beers available back in 2011. It's bold, spiky, lip-puckering and moreish. Now Rat is taking over with a mischief of Rats emerging from Ossett Brewery.

Read on to find out more about their beer of choice for City Beerfest 2026.

🍻 Meet the Line‑Up: Your Tasting Journey

White Rat

4% ABV | Cask | Pale Ale

Think bright, hoppy, and effortlessly drinkable.

This is a refreshing pale ale that made its name as one of the hoppiest beers you could find on cask. A secret blend of hops delivers spiky, lip‑puckering citrus and green hop notes up front, balanced by a light malt backbone that keeps everything crisp and irresistibly moreish.

Best enjoyed: when you’re after a sessionable cask ale with real bite and plenty of hop character.

Trip Hop 6

4% ABV | Ale | Cask

Think juicy, sunshine‑soaked, and effortlessly drinkable.

This Southern Hemisphere‑inspired cask ale is brewed with Australian hops to deliver a proper summer vibe. Bursting with ripe strawberry and raspberry flavours, it’s layered with soft orange and mango notes from Amarillo, then rounded off by the gentle sweetness and subtle spice of Topaz. Bright, fruity, and beautifully balanced.

Best enjoyed: on a warm day, in good company, when you want a cask ale that tastes like summer in a glass.

Excelsius

5% ABV | Ale | Cask

Think bold, commanding, and unapologetically classic.

The most intense and powerful beer in the classics range, Excelsius lives up to its Latin name — “forever upwards.” This dry‑hopped, fruity pale ale is full‑bodied and confident, delivering soaring hop character balanced by a sturdy malt backbone. A national champion by reputation and by nature, it’s a beer with real presence, much like the red kites circling above the brewery.

Best enjoyed: when you’re in the mood for a stronger cask ale.

White Rat Nitro

4% ABV | Pale Ale | Keg | Vegan

Think smooth, creamy, and unmistakably White Rat.

First unleashed in 2011 as one of the hoppiest cask beers around, Ossett Brewery’s #1 cask beer, White Rat,  now escapes the cask in nitro form. Expect the signature hop bite and bright flavour you know and love, softened by a luxuriously creamy mouthfeel. Served cold and smooth, nitro brings consistency and drinkability while letting the hops still shine through.
